Hello,
My name is Daniella and this is my first blog ever. I am a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio and I am privileged to be a biomedical engineering student. There's always something new and exciting to learn about in this field. In one of my biomedical classes, we were assigned a project to create a website and to present it to the class at the end of the semester. A list of topics was provided and when I saw Parkinson's Disease I knew that would be the topic I would truly be passionate about. You see, I have a personal connection with Parkinson's. My grandfather had an aggressive form of the disease for most of his life and two years ago, my aunt was also diagnosed with the disease. I have always been a bit afraid that maybe one day I too could get that diagnosis. I remember visiting my grandfather in Mexico and never really getting to know him as an individual because his disease got in the way of us connecting. The last time I saw him I was about six years old, he died a couple of years ago. Maybe it was the distance, maybe it was the way how life doesn't let you do what you want sometimes, but I'd like to think that if he didn't have PD I would have gotten the chance to know him better. This is why I wanted to learn more about the disease and the available treatments. Thankfully, my group and I found that there are a tremendous amount of resources and information available for patients and their families, students, and educators. In this site we have tried to gather information from various sources to provide one concise message, there is hope. There are a lot of people out there who are working on finding a cure and they won't stop until one is found. I encourage you to share your story. There is always something new to be learned and hope flourishes in shared experiences.
Stay strong,
Daniella
P.S.: If you have any suggestions for specific blog topics you would like me to talk about, please post your ideas and I'll do my best in researching your questions.
